NEW spectro2guide Pro:
Color Meter with highest accuracy for Black

BYK-Gardner - worldwide partner of the automotive, paint and plastic industries for quality control of color, appearance and physical properties - is introducing a new member of the spectro2guide family: The spectro2gudie Pro.

The color black has always been a special challenge for color measurement and puts the quality of a portable spectrophotometer to the ultimate test.

Since hardly any light is reflected from the sample - leading carbon black manufacturers promote carbon black pigments that absorb up to 99.98% of light -  the measured values are affected by so-called instrument noise and can vary considerably from one instrument to the next.

The latest member of the spectro2guide family, the spectro2guide Pro, was developed to accurately measure black and describe its undertones no matter how deep black the color might be.

The spectro2guide Pro features excellent technical performance which also is assured for the very low reflectance range R < 0.1 %. Additional control and calibration steps during the production process as well as a special Jetness mode with higher light energy guarantee repeatable and reliable measurement results even for the deepest black.

However, the world does not only consist of black and white. To ensure color harmony the spectro2guide Pro measures color and 60° gloss simultaneously in compliance with international standards. In addition, the same high performance LED technology as light sources is used for which BYK Gardner's measurement instruments are highly appreciated by customers. Due to the outstanding performance of these innovative LEDs, the short-term, long-term and temperature stability as well as a homogeneous illumination spot are unsurpassed in the industry. As a result, a superior accuracy and excellent inter-instrument agreement allow the use of digital standards. Being part of the family, digital standards can also be exchanged with the other members of the spectro2guide family: spectro2go and spectro2guide.

Additionally to the control of color harmony the spectro2guide Pro is able to predict the lightfastness by the combination of a spectrophotometer with a fluorimeter. Lightfastness is analyzed with proprietary calculations predicting the color change with total color difference DE as well as individual color component deltas DLABCH. The excitation and emission range of fluorescent behavior is displayed with the slider function in smart-lab.

This high technology is complimented by the easy-to-use operation and handling: The spectro2guide Pro offers a 3.5” color touchscreen. A perfect premise for the icon-based menu, which allows an intuitive smart phone like operation and the integrated camera, that shows a live preview of the measurement spot. The long-term calibration of the instrument can be monitored with the auto diagnosis function of the included docking station. If the values are out of specification, the instrument will automatically ask you to calibrate on the instrument white standard. Thereby, a reliable calibration is guaranteed.

The spectro2guide Pro offers three possibilities to transfer data: Via docking station - USB cable - wireless with WiFi. Dependent on your needs, data analysis can be done with either the software smart-lab for online measurement and flexible data analysis or smart-process for a standardized sampling process with digital standards defined in Organizers.

The new spectro2guide Pro: Developed to measure color, gloss, fluorescence and the ultimate Black with highest accuracy Jetness indices.

About BYK

BYK is one of the world’s leading suppliers in the field of additives and measuring instruments.  Additives are chemical substances which, when used in small quantities, improve product properties such as scratch resistance or surface gloss. Manufacturing processes are also optimized by the addition of additives.

The coatings, inks, and plastics industries are among the main consumers of BYK additives. Yet with the production of oil and gas, the manufacture of care products, the production of adhesives and sealants, and construction chemistry, too, BYK additives improve the product characteristics and production processes. Testing and measuring instruments from BYK can effectively evaluate the quality of color, gloss, and appearance as well as the physical properties of paint, plastic, and paper products and are an important part of quality control.

As a globally operating specialty chemicals company, BYK has production sites in Germany (Wesel, Kempen, Moosburg, Schkopau and Geretsried), in the Netherlands (Deventer, Njiverdal and Denekamp), in Great Britain (Widnes), in the US (Wallingford, Chester, Gonzales, Louisville, Earth City and Pompano Beach) and in China (Tongling).

Today the company employs more than 2,300 people worldwide and forms part of the ALTANA Group.
