  • Pour in test liquid
  • Draw a clean glass plate over the rim of the cup, removing superfluous liquid into the overflow reservoir and closing the cup
  • Remove glass plate horizontally
  • Open the orifice and start the stopwatch simultaneously
  • Stop the watch with the first break in the efflux stream
  • Repeat the measurement three times, each with a new sample of the same material

Comprehensive Rheometry Guide

Have you ever wondered why it is, that sunscreen stays inside the bottle when turned upside down, but spreads smoothly when applied on skin? It all has to do with the rheological behavior of a specific material. In this paper we will explore the basics of rheology, how different instruments can measure different aspects of a fluid’s behavior and examine the differences between relative and absolute measurement systems by looking at various practical examples.

Guide to Viscosity Measurement

Viscosity is an important property of liquids to determine how they flow, spread, or level under certain conditions. It can be defined as a liquid’s internal resistance to flow. Being able to measure the viscosity will allow to predict the behavior in a process or an application. When applying a paint by roll application the paint viscosity will strongly influence the amount of paint applied per surface area, thereby determining both yield and hiding power. It is crucial for liquid products to undergo a viscosity measurement in incoming and outgoing QC.
